Picture
Mayn Shtetele Belz was written by Alexander Olshanetsky and Jacob Jacobs for Dem Khazn' Zun (The Cantor's Son), a 1937 film that marked the screen debut of the great singer Moishe Oysher.
In the movie Moishe played cantor's son, who left his hometown in Poland to seek fame and fortune in America.  After when he became very rich beyond his wildest dreams, he comes back home to surprise his parents on their 50th wedding anniversary.
As he approaches the familiar village, he sings "Mayn Shtetele Belz", a song which evokes the fond memories he has of his childhood home.

Refrain:

English
When I recall my childhood,
I feel like I am having a  dream.
how does the little house look,
which used to sparkle with  lights?
Does the little tree grow which I planted long ago?

Refrain:
Beltz, my little town!
The little house where I spent my childhood!
The poor little room
Where I used to laugh with other children!
Every Shabes I would run to the river bank to play with
Other children under a little green tree.
 Belz, my little town!
My little town where I had so many fine dreams!
