David Blatt stage name is Jay Black. He was born into an Orthodox family. In the 1960's, he became a very popular singer with his group "The Americans".  One of Jay's most renowned  songs was called, ”Cara Mia”. His voice had a cantorial quality.  One day in 1966, he received an e-mail from Dr. Irving Bennett. Irving provided him with lyrics and the score of the song “Vie iz dus geseleh?”
Jay immediately fell in love with this song. He asked Artie Butler to help him with the arrangement. With this song he wanted to demonstrate his feelings about the Holocaust. Jay had struggled with the record company for a long period of time, until he convinced them to allow him to record it. With the permission of Marc Chagall, he added his paintings to provide sentimental visions of the Jewish Villages in vivid colors.
